My MistAire Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier Review: Here’s What I Really Think!

The reason why I decided to write this Mistaire humidifier review is that it really helped me three years ago when the winter season started and the central heating kicked in, the dry air in our home started “Tinkling” my nose. My sinuses started filling to a point when my nose couldn’t handle the amount of snot and it started going down to my lungs. Long story short, by the end of the winter, I had two bronchitises and pneumonia, which I could have avoided by using a humidifier.

I always had serious problems with dry air during the winter season. What's worse is my kid (at that time he was a baby got mild eczema due to harsh winter dryness) my baby was crying continuously, I was unable to function normally and started feeling weak. The doctors didn’t know how to help me except prescribing antibiotics. I also applied some generic baby cream to soothe his skin but it was short lived.

Therefore, I needed a solution. And, since my clogged nose, and constant coughing kept me up a decent part of the night, every night, I decided to put some use in that awake night time. And, like with every other problem we have in our lives, when we go to the almighty Google for a possible pearl of wisdom, I typed “ways to clean your sinuses”. After a few hours of going through all kinds of “solutions”, I stumbled upon an article talking about baby humidifiers.

And, down in the comments, noticed that many people said that besides helping their babies sleep better and longer, they fixed their sinus problems with a humidifier.

An hour of research later, I found out that humidifiers, besides killing germs and bacteria in the air, are great for humidifying your sinuses, nose, throat, and lungs, and allow you to clean them up much easier and faster. “Okay, a Humidifier it is then!” I said to myself.

After deciding that I want to give the humidifier a chance, it was time to pick the model… Seemed a whole lot easier in my head.

However, I soon discovered that there is a bunch of different models on the market. Various sizes, price ranges, functions and features…

Somehow, my choice landed on the MistAire Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier. 

Mostly because of the great reviews saying that it’s small yet can humidify an entire room (which was exactly what I needed, not the whole apartment), that it does the job perfectly, and the fact that it offers great value for money.

“Heck, for under $50, I might just give it a try”, and so I did.

The manufacturer says that this humidifier has a big tank. Okay to be honest, 1.5 liters is pretty small amount of water and there are humidifiers with bigger tanks on the market.

However, after I started using it, it turned out that 1.5 liters of water are quite enough for an entire night “steam session”, on the highest mist setting.

And, if you plan using it for the baby nursery room, you can crank down the amount of mist to half, and get 12-14 hours of continuous use, one one tank.

This is actually a great feature that I really learned to appreciate.

It allows you to rotate the mist nozzle in any direction you want.

This is great for humidifying the whole room, without having to physically move the entire humidifier around the room to get better mist coverage.

For example, you can decide to turn it on a few hours before you go to bed, and turn the nozzle in the direction of your bed.

Once it’s bed time, if you don’t like the idea of the humidifier blowing mist directly at you, you can turn the nozzle in the opposite direction, yet leave it to work while you sleep.

This is one of the main reasons why I actually decided to get this humidifier. 

I didn’t want to worry myself sick when leaving the home, thinking: “Did I turn off the humidifier? Will it overheat if it runs without water and cause a fire???”.

And, the Auto-Off feature works like a charm!

Every time when the humidifier realizes the tank is empty (there will always be a little water in the tank docking area, so don’t worry the humidifier isn’t completely dry when the tank runs out of water), it simply turns itself off. 

Simple as that.

Of course, this is probably the most important part of a humidifier as it allows you to control the amount of mist that comes out of the nozzle. 

The speed settings on this model are as simple to use as it gets.

You can easily adjust the desired level of mist by simply by simply pressing the button. 

During the night, I would set it at high speed and turned the nozzle towards my bed as I wanted to get the most mist in my direction as possible.

Even though I was quite skeptical about this part because every single manufacturer claims that their humidifier is noiseless, and in most cases, it turns out not to be true.

However, the MistAire humidifier pleasantly surprised me because when I turned it on for the first time, it was actually soundless!

Okay, for me, that wasn’t that important because I don’t mind noises while I sleep.

But, I have small kids, and for their sleeping time, the room should be quiet. 

And, it worked like a charm even in the kids’ room. They had no trouble sleeping while the humidifier was on. 

In fact, they started waking up less during the night and slept longer.​

Personally, the “light show” wasn’t much of a factor when I was choosing the humidifier.

However, it occurred to me that my younger child (he was 1 year old at the time) might find this feature interesting. And, that the lights might help get him to sleep faster.

The light is pretty dim so it pretty much doesn't hurt my child's eyes!

And the best thing is, it actually did!

He was so focused on the light that nothing distracted him and he would soon fall asleep.

So, if you are in the market of humidifiers for your baby nursery room, this feature is a great bonus.

When it comes to humidifier maintenance, if you want to have a mist that is safe-to-breathe, you need to clean it between each refill.

With MistAire, the cleaning is a rather tedious process. You have to make sure that all the old water is drained and that the tank is rinsed thoroughly. And, you have to make sure that everything is dried before refilling the tank with fresh water.

And that is it.

The type of water used it's SUPER IMPORTANT!! It's gonna save you a lot of time and effort to clean!

With this humidifier model, all you get is the humidifier itself (water tank included) and the power AC power adapter with a pretty simple manual.

And, you will get one disk cleaning kit. But, for the price of under $50, you can’t actually expect a bunch of accessories.

For the price, you get a humidifier that easily and effectively humidifies a room. Also, it works all night on the highest mist setting (8 hours) or 10-14 hours on the medium. And, it doesn’t break down often and is quite reliable and safe to use because it turns off when the water level gets low.

In my book, this humidifier has an amazing price to value ratio in favor of the consumer.

To be honest, the cons I noticed are not real deal breakers, but I had to share my full experience with the unit I have.

Okay, so you know that I got this humidifier because I wanted to get rid of my sinus problems during the winter season, which were caused by the infamous central heating dry air. 

And, it actually helped me way more than I expected!

The first morning I woke up after a whole night mist session, I could literally feel how my nose was less clogged and after a few months of being able to breath only on my mouth, being able to breathe through my nose (even a little) felt like I was reborn!

Of course, it took me some 10 days of constant night humidification to get all the snot out and allow my sinuses to completely clean out and be moisturized so that they don’t flame up again.

And, I had to have paper towels by my side all the time. But, once I got cleaned up, I could use my nose for smelling again!

Furthermore, I also noticed my kid started waking up less during the night and how in the morning they were actually in a much better mood. Their throats and nose weren’t dry and sore. And, my baby kid's eczema has drastically improved (Of course that took at least a month to heal!)

And, since we started using the MistAire Cool Mist humidifier, their skin didn’t dry up when the heating kicked in. Also, it was more hydrated and soft.
