But, soon or a later, especially when we suffer from a headache frequently, we all wonder, what is the reason for a headache.
There are many possible reasons for headaches, like a migraine, dehydration, stress, some diseases, etc.
But, also some things from our home environment like as low humidity, cause us a headache.
INDOOR HUMIDITY - THE FACTS
The definition says that humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air.
The level of humidity in the air can influence the comfort of your home and your general health.
It should be a priority for every homeowner to manage ideal indoor moisture.
It's essential for you to obtain the right level of moisture in your indoor home environment.
During winter the average humidity at your house should be lower than 40%, and in the summer months, it should be between 35-45 percents.
To prevent some problems stay in the proper ranges.
SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HEADACHES
A headache is an often condition that induces discomfort and aches in the head, neck or scalp.
A headache can be gentle, but more often, can prolong intense pain that aggravates daily activities.
But guess what?! Most headaches can be controlled with medication and changes in lifestyle.
types of headaches
Exist several different types of a headache: a tension headache, cluster headache, migraine headache, rebound headache and thunderclap headache.
A tension headache is most common type of a headache.
When you're suffering from a tension headache, you must be feeling like a tight band around the head tightening of the muscles in the scalp and neck are causing those type of a headache.
Stress is usually the main contributing factor. They usually last for several minutes, but in some occasions can last for a few days.
A cluster headache causes excruciating, burning pain of the eye or one side of the head.
They usually produce nasal congestion and cause the eye to tear up.
These type of a headache can last for prolonged time periods, but the farthest six weeks long.
A migraine headache is grave headaches that can cause pounding pain, commonly on the one side of the head.
A chronic migraine may last 15 or more days a month.
Rebound headaches are the type of headache that occurs after one discontinues the use of medications they regularly used to treat migraines.
A thunderclap headache is a curt, intense headache that often comes on very quickly.
They last up to five minutes but appear without warning.
This type of headache can be a warning about an underlying problem with blood vessels in the brain and often require medical attention.
HOW CAN LOW HUMIDITY AFFECT A HEADACHE?
When you are exposed to dry air extended length of time, it is more likely to experience nasal dryness.
The mucous membranes will be so dried out that at the and it would start to crack, and may also become irritated and inflamed. This can cause a specific type of a headache, rightly known as a sinus headache.
The average flow of blood through the sinus cavities is restricted by inflammation, and the result is a pounding headache.
Another way in which dry air can be the reason for headaches is from the off-gassing of toxic and noxious chemicals.
You might be surprised to hear that some household objects like paint, furniture fabrics and shower curtains contain potentially damaging chemicals.
Dry air will make these chemicals to vaporize into a gas form, spoiling the surrounding atmosphere.
When you are breathing in these noxious gases its may cause a headache and other health problems.
In such a way, depending on your circumstances, if the air in your indoor home is extremely dry, then increasing the humidity may help. A humidifier is necessary in that case.
You can check out this video which Dr Sreenivasa explains in detail how dry air causes such headaches.
CAN A HUMIDIFIER HELPS US TO GET RID OF A HEADACHE?
When sickness permeates around us, some things automatically get the guiltiness.
It's said to be because of weak immune system, or weather, or overload conditions.
Until some of these predictions may have a bit of a basis in truth, one of the primary offenders is commonly overlooked: Humidity.
For this cause, the consequences of humidity to human health is very decisive.
Humidifiers are appliances that broadcast water vapor to keep air in a room moist.
So, that's the answer, yes, humidifier can help us when we are fighting with headaches.
Not only that, they can ensure a lot less agony with a headache for a prolonged time.
This is pretty easy, but it will mean an investment on your part.
HOW HUMIDIFIER HELPS US TO REMOVE A HEADACHE?
The fact is that we all need a certain level of humidity to feel comfortable and be healthy.
Humidifiers relieve water vapor to enhance the moisture in the air, helping keep thing hydrated.
When using humidifier daily, your mucous membranes will be moisture.
In that case, it wouldn't crack and become inflamed and irritated, and you wouldn't feel an annoying headache.
Also, moisture air prevents the normal flow of blood through the sinus cavities and spare you from a headache too.
Fortunately, there`s a simple solution, get a humidifier.
WHAT TYPE OF HUMIDIFIER ARE PRIME WHEN YOU SUFFER FROM HEADACHE?
You can't stand any a headache more, and you decide to do something instead of.
You conclude that a humidifier is must have.
Now, you are wondering which one is better for you.
Cool-mist and warm-mist humidifiers are evenly efficient in humidifying the air.
Whiles the water vapor reaches your lower airways, it's the same temperature therewithal of whether it started out cool or warm.
If the reason for your headache is cold or flu, you may need a warm mist humidifier.
They produce a warm, soothing mist that you can feel and see and they are quietly then cool mist humidifiers.
But, warm mist humidifiers need to be cleaned more frequently, and they are more difficult to clean at all.
As well they tend to overspread a smaller area then cool mist humidifier.
And if you have children, you should keep them out of the reach because some of them produce hot steam.
When choosing the right humidifier that would help you with headache problems, it's important to know the reason for your headache. Because, if its just because dry air, it doesn't matter.
So, what type of humidifier can help you if your headache is related to sinus problems? Well, in that case, make it a routine to sleep with a cool-mist humidifier in your bedroom.
When choosing the right size of humidifier for your house, resolve whether you want to humidify just one room or the whole house.
If you live in an arid climate, you might want to invest in a whole-house system.
Be sure to keep your humidifier clean to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold and to prevent mineral buildup too.
In the end, both get the job done. It's just up to you to conclude what characteristic best correspond your preferences and specific needs.
HUMIDIFIER OR MEDICAtion - WHAT IS BETTER FOR YOU?
When your head is pounding, you want it to stop. Right?
Get the information about beneficial headache treatment, including medications and quick-acting coping tips.
Not sure about you, but when I suffer from a headache, I instantly take some pill.
Then I'm wondering, couldn't I do something else instead? In the end, if it doesn`t work, we can always take a pill.
So, there isn`t an exact answer, both (humidifier and medicaments) may or may not help with a headache.
For example, if your interior air is too dry and that is the reason for your headache, a better choice is to get a humidifier.
If the air in your bedroom is too dry, your throat and sinuses will desiccate, and that is a perfect recipe for disturbed sleep.
Sleep quality and enough! Because not getting your nightly minimum can lead to chronic headaches.
You may take some pill, and you would be better for sure, but the air would stay the same - too dry. It`s probably that a headache will come back soon.
The medication can`t make dry air moisture, but the humidifier can.
In that case, my recommendation is a humidifier instead of pills.
Problems with sleep may produce stress which is the most commonly reported trigger for a tension headache, not only from work and for moms especially when taking care of your kids.
Usually, sufficient and quality sleep will help reduce the intensity of these types of headaches and eventually fade away if high sleep quality is consistent.
Humidifiers do help a lot because they provide an optimally moist environment for your bedroom for you to breathe in and that's important for quality sleep, as we know.
For headaches like rebound headaches, humidifiers might not be a useful tool as these types of headaches are mainly caused by the frequent dosage of drugs such as caffeine.
Having medication might only serve as a temporary solution as the effectiveness of the drug will weaken when you consume on a frequent basis.
Best way to deal with these kinds of headaches is to cycle your drug intake so that you will able to tolerate the withdrawal effects and keeps the effectiveness of drug strong at the same time.
In this case, it would be caffeine (which happens to most of the people suffering from rebound headaches)
Also, you should consider some other preventive measures other than medicament and humidifier. I will mention some of them, and they may be helpful for you.
Massage therapy may help minimise chronic pain as well as ease muscle tension that causes headaches.
Try out aromatherapy as well. Certain smells can trigger positive and even healing responses in the brain.
Aromatic oils that may be able to reduce the incidence of headaches are peppermint extract, eucalyptus, and lavender oil.
In addition, I do recommend this book where it explains on choosing different kinds for aromatic oils to relieve stress, but if you want to put any oils to the humidifier, make sure the humidifier has a separate compartment to diffuse the scent.
Always hydrate yourself! Drink a lot of water! Dehydration can contribute to a headache.
Also, your headache may be related to some disease, and you should take medication.
All the same, if you`re living in the place with a scorching climate or it`s winter time, you should consider buying a humidifier.
On the other side, if your indoor air usually is humid, and you still have headaches, try it with some analgesic. In this case, it`s not recommended to use a humidifier because they will make air to much humid.
Higher relative indoor humidity levels cause some other problems.
Overmuch moisture in the room can turn it to molds and flare throughout the house.
These mold conditions can be the reason for secondary infection.
SOME OTHER TIPS FOR ADDING HUMIDITY IN YOUR HOME
You already know that having the appropriate humidity levels in your home is vital for your health.
Now, we will review some other advice for increasing humidity in your home.
Those suggestions are just in case your humidifier can't ensure entire house with moist enough. Or you need some other solution until you get one.
To conclude, low humidity can cause headaches indeed.
Dry air supports the mucous membranes to dry out, at that condition, they become irritated and inflamed.
Additionally, dry air may induce off-gassing of toxic chemicals as well as allergic reactions.
Both of them can also cause headaches.
A humidifier helps with adding moisture to dry air, therefore may help with headache problem too.
What humidifier is right for you it`s just about your other possible health problems and your personal needs. But all of them provide you with enough moisture air.
You can always take a pill, but my advice is to acquire a humidifier.
Sometimes maybe you`ll need both of them to resolve the headache problem.
